Math is so versatile. you can always find something interesting for a child to count. :) Here my 5 yr. old is counting jewels 
and rings. We are in the middle of a Bible study on beauty. Inner, vs outer and so these things just fit right in. That's the fun thing about homeschooling. You take what the child needs to learn and make it interesting enough that they "want" to learn it.
